Discover the Hidden Beauty of Tsum Valley

Tsum Valley, perched between 1905 and 5093 meters, is a mesmerizing trekking destination in Nepal. Often called the “Hidden Valley,” it is surrounded by the majestic Baudha Himal and Himal Chuli to the west, Ganesh Himal to the south, and Sringi Himal to the north. This trek takes you through two remote villages, Chhekampar (Upper Tsum) and Chumchet (Lower Tsum), where modern influences are minimal. Visitors can experience the untouched beauty, ancient ruins, and a sense of remoteness.

The Kyimo Lung, a revered pilgrimage circuit in the central Trans-Himalaya, is famous for its centers of Buddhist learning and meditation. Tsum Valley’s rich Tibetan heritage, natural splendor, and pristine culture make this trek truly unique. The local inhabitants, mostly of Tibetan descent, speak a unique dialect. The trails are adorned with stone slabs inscribed with deities and prayers, reflecting the region’s deep Buddhist roots.

Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu

Upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, meet our trekking guide and transfer to your hotel in the vibrant Thamel area. Spend the day shopping and preparing for your adventure.

Day 02: Exploring Kathmandu

Join a guided tour of Kathmandu, visiting the sacred Pashupatinath temple and the Bouddhanath Stupa, also known as “Little Tibet.” These sites are UNESCO World Heritage locations. Spend the afternoon finalizing your trek preparations.

Day 03: Drive to Soti Khola

Depart early from Kathmandu and drive to Soti Khola (700m). The journey takes about 6-7 hours, depending on road conditions. Enjoy the scenic views of hills, forests, the Trishuli River, terraced fields, and small villages. Upon arrival, rest and take in the breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks.

Day 04: Hike to Maccha Khola

Begin your trek from Soti Khola to Maccha Khola (930m). Cross a suspension bridge over the Soti Khola and trek through lush Sal forests, passing through several villages. The trail includes a challenging rocky gorge, but the views are well worth it.

Day 05: Hike to Jagat

Continue your trek from Maccha Khola to Jagat (1340m). Pass through Thado Khola and the village of Khorlabesi, stopping at Tatopani for natural hot springs. The trail includes a stone staircase, a landslide area, and a suspension bridge before reaching Jagat.

Day 06: Hike to Lokpa

Register your permits at Jagat and trek to Lokpa (2240m). Enjoy scenic views of the Himalayas and pass through terraced hillsides and village settlements. Register at the checkpoint in Ekle Bhatti and continue along the Budi Gandaki River.

Day 07: Hike to Chumling

Enter the Tsum Valley and trek to Chumling (2386m). Descend to the Lungwa River valley, pass through rhododendron forests, and visit the village of Gumling. Upon arrival, explore three monasteries: Panago Gumba, Mani Dhungyur Gumba, and Gurwa Gumba.

Day 08: Hike to Chekampar

Trek to Chekampar (3031m), the upper Tsum Valley. Enjoy views of Himchuli, Buddha Himal, and Ganesh Himal. Pass through the village of Domje and arrive at Chekampar, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 09: Hike to Nile

Visit the Milarepa cave, a significant spiritual site with footprints of the Tibetan Buddhist Master, Milarepa. Trek through green meadows and visit monasteries with beautifully painted Buddhist murals. Cross a suspension bridge over the Shiar Khola to reach Nile (3361m).

Day 10: Exploration of Mu Gompa

Spend the day exploring Mu Gompa (3700m), the largest monastery in the region, which houses religious texts, statues, and portraits. Visit other monasteries like Rikang Gumba, Dhephu Gumba, and a nunnery. Trek along the Shyan River and enjoy views of the Ganesh Himal.

Day 11: Return to Chekampar

Retrace your steps back to Chekampar, passing through villages, monasteries, and mani walls. Cross the Shiar Khola and return to Chekampar.

Day 12: Hike to Chumling

Trek back to Chumling, enjoying views of farmlands with barley, maize, potatoes, and buckwheat. Pass through Daphne Gompa and return to Chumling.

Day 13: Hike to Jagat

Trek down from Chumling to Jagat, following the same route.

Day 14: Hike to Soti Khola

Trek from Jagat to Soti Khola, following the same route.

Day 15: Journey Back to Kathmandu

Drive from Soti Khola to Kathmandu, concluding your trek.
