trip information

Mount Everest is known by different names depending on the region. To Tibetans, it is “Chomolungma,” meaning “Mother Goddess of the Earth,” and to the Sherpa people, it is “Sagarmatha,” meaning “Goddess of the Sky.” The mountain received its Western name in 1865, named after Sir George Everest, who served as the British Surveyor General of India from 1830 to 1843. Located in Nepal’s Solukhumbu region, Everest has drawn adventurers from across the globe since the area was opened to foreigners in 1950. In addition to being home to the world’s tallest peak, Solukhumbu is known for its traditional Sherpa villages and ancient monasteries, where life has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Trekkers and climbers have long been attracted to this region, which now offers everything from self-guided lodge treks to large-scale expeditions. Much of this area is protected under Sagarmatha National Park, established in 1976. With its towering peaks and rich culture, it’s a dream destination for mountaineers and hikers alike.
