trip information
Trek with us to the 6th highest mountain in the world at the height 8201 Mt Cho Oyu meaning turquoise goddess, considered to be the stepping stone to prepare oneself for the high altitude Everest climb being 30km west of Mt Everest. It is usually climbed through its Northwest Ridge as it has less technical climbing, big snowfields, and little objective danger. It was first attempted in 1952 by an expedition party of the join Himalayan committee of Great Britain but was stopped due to technical difficulties and avalanche danger. Later it was conquered by Herbert Tichy, Joseph Jochler and Pasang Dawa Lama via the north-west ridge on October 19, 1954.
The journey to Cho Oyu basecamp can be done either via flights to Lhasa or via land through the Rasuwagadhi border. It can be climbed from both the Nepalese sides up on the south face and north-east ridge routes and the Tibetan side along the Northwest ridge route with the North approach being an easier and a standard route, which was also the route of the first summit. Mt Cho Oyu is most suitable to climb during spring and autumn. .The Cho Oyu Expedition consists of very short but scenic treks to Cho Oyu basecamp, intermediate and advanced camp followed by 3 climbing camps that feature very limited and short steep and technical sections making it perfect to get used to the demands on extremely high altitude.
